Frequently asked questions
Yes! All our honey is unpasteurized: even the creamed versions.
This leaves behind all of the beneficial enzymes and healthy stuff.
Crystallizing is a natural process that raw liquid honey will do over time. To soften the honey simply warm it until the honey returns to the desired consistency.
Creaming honey encourages the honey to produce very small cystals that gives the honey a velvety smooth texture.
Glyphosate ( Roundup) is used commonly in NZ to control weeds. Unfortunately it often makes its way into commercial honey, but not into ours.
We no longer use herbicides to control grass in front of the hives. That way you can ensure that we are producing a top quality product free from any contamination.
We try to leave more honey on the hives than other beekeepers to help the bees get through winter. However when they need a little top up we feed them non-GMO sugar from a (certified) sustainable source.
From 2020 onwards Dave's Bees will be selling it's honey in glass jars and moving away from single use plastic packaging.
Internet sales are wrapped packaged in re-used cardboard or re-used bubble wrap.
